The Harris County Medical Society/Houston Academy of Medicine recognized Forgotten Children as the winner of the 2017 Francis C. Moore, MD, Medical Journalism Award. The award recognizes excellence in medical and health reporting in Harris County. Forgotten Children takes an in-depth look into why do adults continue to forget children in the back of cars, which is especially deadly in the summer when temperatures quickly rise to lethal levels. It’s an issue that’s more complex than you might think and it’s especially problematic in Texas, which leads the nation in hot-car deaths since 1990.
