[Editor’s note: Mom chimes in here for a special guest post.]
You have been growing in my belly for over 39 weeks now. You’ve been a great baby so far, allowing me to continue feeling well, work, and be active this whole time. Thank you for that. Your dad and I have great news for you—your room is finally complete!
We know you won’t be spending much time in there for a while because you will be sleeping in our room to start with, but we had so much fun putting it together, and can’t wait to show you your very own space. Your room is truly my favorite room in our new house. Your dad often finds me sitting in the glider or just in the middle of the rug thinking and relaxing. Your room is so special because almost every piece was either gifted by family and friends or handmade by mom and dad.
We waited to start working on your room until we knew if you were a boy or a girl. To be honest, something was telling me you were a boy, so I had visions only of a boy room in my head. When we found out you were a girl, I was stumped. I knew I wanted the room to be feminine but by no means over-the-top princess-like with ruffles, bows, and pink galore. I consulted Pinterest in search of something to fit into the realm of feminine yet simple, and came up with a vision I loved and felt could evolve with you as you get older.
While there are many mom-and-dad-made pieces in your room, the beautiful wood piece over your crib is not one of them. I ordered this off of Etsy ☺ It’s special, though, because it was the first thing we had solidifying your name. There was no turning back after that!

The framed picture sitting by your crib is you, believe it or not—taken the day we found out you were a girl. You had been growing in my belly for about 20 weeks then. It sure does look like you have my nose and your dad’s long legs.
To the right of your crib, there is a white box filled with lots of soft blankets, each from a different loved one. The box in itself was a gift. It was originally used as a toy box for your soon-to-be best friends, Mila and Abbott. When we found out you were coming along, I instantly had a better idea for it. All it needed was a coat of white paint, and it was perfect for a little girl’s room.
These wooden shelves are one of my favorite parts of your room. Your dad and I made these together shortly after we got married because our apartment at the time was pretty plain. Once we moved to our new house, they served as the inspiration for your room, which incorporates a lot of natural wood elements.

On the shelves, there are a couple photos of me pregnant with you. One includes your dad holding my belly and smiling. He has always loved doing this, just waiting to feel you move around in there.
The small glass vase on the lower shelf is also special. This vase held the roses your dad gave to me on our one-year wedding anniversary.

The white cubby contains so many fun things for you—most importantly, the books! We had a great baby shower to welcome you. We asked everyone to bring a book for you in place of a card to help us jumpstart your library. Each of these books contains a special message to you from someone who loves you very much. We can’t wait to start reading these to you, and eventually, have you read them to us!
Last but not least, this mirror. This mirror was the last project to complete your room because it is SO heavy. The actual mirror came from Gran’s house. She had it taken out of her upstairs bathroom on her own doing, and I said DO NOT GET RID OF THAT! I, the self-proclaimed queen of repurposing, immediately knew I wanted it for your room. Your dad and I worked to build the wood frame, attached the mirror, and hung in place over the dresser. Again with the natural wood—I just love it.
I had so much fun designing your room, and I did it on a budget, too (you’ll learn I am quite the bargain hunter)! We hope you will grow to love your room as much as we (and the puppies) already do.
